Based in Stockholm, it is unusual among European miners in owning both mines and smelters, and its smelters process a large share of recycled material, electronic scrap included. That combination yields a steady flow of precious and minor metals as by-products. ## Boliden's critical minerals business Boliden mines and smelts copper, zinc, lead and nickel, recovering tellurium as a by-product of its smelting. Copper comes chiefly from Aitik in northern Sweden, zinc and lead from Garpenberg and its other zinc mines, and nickel from Kevitsa in Finland.
