Iluka Resources is a Perth-based mineral sands producer and one of the world's main suppliers of zircon and high-grade titanium feedstocks. With support from the Australian government it is building a rare earths refinery at Eneabba in Western Australia, which would make it one of the few producers of separated rare earths outside China.
Iluka Resources is linked to titanium and zirconium. It produces rutile and synthetic rutile, the high-grade titanium feedstocks used for pigment and titanium metal, along with zircon, which goes into ceramics, refractories and nuclear fuel cladding. Its Eneabba refinery is designed to produce separated light and heavy rare earth oxides from the monazite found in mineral sands.
Iluka Resources mines at Jacinth-Ambrosia in South Australia and at Cataby in Western Australia, processes synthetic rutile at Capel, and is building the Eneabba rare earths refinery north of Perth. Balranald in New South Wales is its next major mineral sands project.
