At $2.39, the price is at its lowest in the past 12 months.
In the past year the monthly price has moved between $2.39 and $7.90.
Measured over the past year, zirconium is −37.0%.
Zirconium (Zr) reaches industry mainly as zircon sand, and its largest use is as an opacifier in ceramic tiles and sanitaryware. It is also used in refractories and foundry sands that withstand molten metal. As a metal, hafnium-free zirconium forms the cladding of nuclear fuel, prized for letting neutrons pass through.
Zircon supply comes from mineral sands mines in Australia, South Africa and Mozambique, where it is co-produced with titanium minerals. Demand is led by ceramics in China and Europe, so it follows construction. The small market for nuclear-grade zirconium metal is far more specialised, with only a few producers able to make it.
Zircon prices rose in 2021 and 2022 as ceramic demand recovered and supply was tight, then eased as construction in China slowed.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $2.39 per kg contained.
Zircon is mined mainly in Australia, South Africa and Mozambique, with smaller amounts from Senegal and Indonesia. China processes much of it into zirconium chemicals and ceramics.
Zirconium is on the US critical minerals list. Nuclear fuel cladding depends on hafnium-free zirconium metal, and while mineral sands supply is broader than for many minor metals, it is still concentrated in Australia and southern Africa.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for zirconium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is per kg of contained zirconium, not for zircon sand and not for nuclear fuel cladding.

As of October 2026, the US benchmark price of zirconium is $2.39 per kg contained. Stockatomics updates it every month.
Mainly zircon for ceramic tiles and sanitaryware, plus refractories, foundry sands, zirconium chemicals and nuclear fuel cladding.
Mainly Australia, South Africa and Mozambique, as a co-product of titanium mineral sands.
They always occur together. Hafnium absorbs neutrons, so it must be removed to make zirconium for nuclear fuel cladding, and that separation is the world's source of hafnium.
