The price is down 11.0% over the past month and +72.2% over the past year.
In the past year the monthly price has moved between $501.60 and $1,720.
Measured over longer windows, gallium is +72.2% on the year and +564.1% over five years.
Gallium (Ga) is the metal behind two of the most important compound semiconductors. Gallium nitride powers the radio-frequency chips in 5G base stations and military radar, as well as fast chargers and the power electronics of data centres and electric vehicles. Gallium arsenide goes into phone RF front-ends, satellite solar cells, lasers and LEDs. Nearly all of it must be refined to extreme purity before use.
Gallium is recovered as a by-product of alumina refining, and because China refines most of the world's alumina, it also produces almost all primary gallium. Western refineries could recover more, but only with investment that makes sense when prices stay high. Demand is small in tonnes yet strategic: compound semiconductors for 5G, radar, power electronics and LEDs. China's export controls have split the market, with prices outside China far above those inside.
Gallium prices were low for most of the 2010s, as Chinese alumina refineries built more recovery capacity than the market needed. In 2023 China placed gallium under export control, and in late 2024 it banned exports to the United States. Prices outside China rose to several times domestic Chinese levels, and Western refiners began to revisit gallium recovery.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $1,530 per kg contained.
China produces nearly all of the world's primary gallium, recovered from alumina refining. Japan, South Korea and Russia produce small amounts, and several Western alumina refineries are evaluating or restarting gallium recovery.
Gallium is on the US critical minerals list and the EU critical raw materials list. Nearly all primary supply comes from China, which has restricted exports, and it is hard to substitute in the high-performance semiconductors behind 5G, radar and defence electronics.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for gallium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is per kg of contained gallium. Because Chinese export controls have split the market, a US price reflects what buyers outside China actually pay, which can be far above Chinese domestic quotes.

As of October 2026, the US benchmark price of gallium is $1,530 per kg contained. Stockatomics updates it every month.
China produces nearly all primary gallium and has restricted exports since 2023, so buyers outside China compete for limited supply.

Yes. It can be recovered at alumina refineries anywhere, and several Western refineries are evaluating or restarting recovery.
