In the past year the monthly price has moved between $85.14 and $85.14.
Measured over the past year, neodymium is +30.4%.
Neodymium (Nd) is the heart of neodymium-iron-boron magnets, the strongest permanent magnets made. They drive the traction motors of electric vehicles, the generators of direct-drive wind turbines, the motors of robots and drones, hard drives, speakers and the actuators of guided weapons. Magnet demand, more than any other use, decides the neodymium market.
Demand for neodymium rises with electric motors, wind turbines, robotics and electronics, all of which need neodymium-iron-boron magnets. Supply is mined in several countries, but separation and metal-making remain concentrated in China, which also sets mining quotas. Western supply chains are being rebuilt with government support, and support prices for US output have made it possible for prices inside and outside China to diverge.
Neodymium prices rocketed in the 2011 rare earth bubble, then fell back for most of a decade. The electric vehicle boom drove a strong rally in 2021 and 2022, followed by a slump as Chinese output grew. China's 2025 export controls and US government support for domestic producers have since created a two-tier market, with prices for non-Chinese supply diverging from those inside China.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $85.14 per kg contained.
China mines and separates most of the world's neodymium. The United States and Australia mine rare earth concentrate and have added separation capacity, and Myanmar is a significant source of feed for Chinese plants.
Neodymium is on the US critical minerals list, and the light rare earths are on the EU critical raw materials list. Permanent magnets for electric vehicles, wind turbines and defence depend on it, and separation and magnet production are concentrated in China.
Stockatomics publishes a US benchmark price for neodymium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is quoted per kg of neodymium oxide, the form in which separated rare earths are usually sold, not for a finished magnet. Because China controls most supply, prices for buyers outside China can differ widely from Chinese domestic quotes.

Neodymium-iron-boron magnets, the strongest permanent magnets made, for electric vehicle motors, wind turbines, robots, drones, hard drives and guided weapons.
Often not. Separating neodymium from other rare earths and turning it into metal and magnets are the tighter steps, and both are concentrated in China.
Chinese export controls and government support for Western producers, including price floors, have created separate price levels for supply inside and outside China.
