Uranium is trading at a 12-month high of $187.41 per kg contained.
Over the past 12 months it has ranged from $124.27 to $187.41 per kg contained.
Over one year the price has changed +38.1%, and over five years +146.0%.
Uranium (U) is the fuel of nuclear power, which produces a large share of the world's low-carbon electricity. Mined uranium is converted, enriched in its fissile isotope and fabricated into fuel assemblies for reactors. Smaller volumes power naval reactors and research reactors that produce medical isotopes.
Uranium demand follows nuclear power: reactor fleets, life extensions and new builds, plus growing interest from technology companies seeking reliable power for data centres. Supply is concentrated in Kazakhstan, Canada, Namibia and Australia, and after years of low prices, mine restarts have been slow. Utilities buy mostly under long-term contracts, so the spot price can swing sharply on small volumes.
Uranium soared to a record in 2007, then collapsed after the Fukushima accident in 2011 led countries to shut reactors. Years of low prices followed, until a recovery from 2021 took spot prices in early 2024 to their highest since 2007, driven by reactor life extensions, new builds and supply constraints.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $187.41 per kg contained.
Kazakhstan is the largest uranium producer, followed by Canada, Namibia, Australia and Uzbekistan. The United States produces a small amount and imports most of the uranium its reactors need.
Uranium was added to the US critical minerals list in 2025. Nuclear power depends on it, mined supply is concentrated in a few countries, and the United States imports most of the uranium its reactors use.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for uranium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is per kg of contained uranium, not for enriched fuel and not for electricity.
