Mineral Resources is a Perth-based company spanning mining services, iron ore, lithium and energy. In lithium it co-owns two large spodumene mines in Western Australia: Wodgina, with Albemarle, and Mt Marion, with Ganfeng Lithium. A long history of building and running mines for others gives it an unusual blend of contracting and production businesses.
Lithium is Mineral Resources' critical mineral. Wodgina and Mt Marion produce spodumene concentrate, shipped mainly to chemical converters in China and, through Albemarle, to refineries elsewhere. Its iron ore business is larger by volume, yet lithium is where its exposure to the energy transition sits.
Mineral Resources' lithium mines are Wodgina in the Pilbara and Mt Marion near Kalgoorlie, both in Western Australia. Its iron ore operations centre on the Onslow Iron project in the Pilbara, and its mining services business runs crushing and processing for third parties.
