Pilbara Minerals is a Perth-based lithium producer and the owner of Pilgangoora in Western Australia, one of the largest hard-rock lithium operations in the world. It sells spodumene concentrate to chemical converters and battery makers, has a downstream joint venture with POSCO in South Korea, and expanded into Brazil by acquiring Latin Resources.
Lithium is Pilbara Minerals' critical mineral. Pilgangoora produces spodumene concentrate sold to converters, mainly in China, while its joint venture with POSCO in South Korea turns part of it into lithium hydroxide. The Brazilian assets open up a second lithium province, positioning the company to supply battery makers on more than one continent.
Pilgangoora lies in Western Australia's Pilbara region, south of Port Hedland, from which its concentrate is exported. Through Latin Resources, Pilbara Minerals now holds the Salinas lithium project in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and its hydroxide joint venture with POSCO is at Gwangyang in South Korea.
