Servers and AI racks are the computers that fill data centres, from standard cloud servers to complete AI racks that hold dozens of GPUs, CPUs, memory, networking and cooling in one integrated system. They are the largest single item in AI data-centre spending, since every GPU and memory chip ends up inside one. Cloud providers such as Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Oracle, together with AI cloud firms like CoreWeave, buy most of them. Dell, Foxconn and other contract makers assemble them, often to designs set by Nvidia and the cloud providers.
Demand is driven by data-centre spending at cloud providers, AI labs and enterprises, and AI has become the largest part of it. Each new generation of AI racks packs more GPUs, memory and networking into one system, raising the value of every unit shipped. Supply depends on GPUs, high-bandwidth memory, power and cooling components, and on assembly capacity at firms such as Foxconn, Quanta and Wistron, which is expanding in Mexico and the United States. Tariffs and trade rules are pushing more assembly closer to buyers.
The average price per server rose gradually for years as servers gained more cores and memory. From 2025 it climbed much faster, as complete AI racks carrying GPUs, memory and networking made up a growing share of shipments, and by 2026 it had reached levels far above those of a standard cloud server. Rising memory prices in 2026 added to the cost of ordinary servers as well.
Most servers and AI racks are assembled by contract makers in Taiwan, Mexico and China, led by Foxconn, Quanta and Wistron, as well as by Dell, HPE, Lenovo and Supermicro. Mexico has become a major assembly base for AI racks heading to US data centres, and new assembly plants in Texas and other US states are adding capacity. Most of the chips and parts inside come from Taiwan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.
The benchmark is a price per server, covering everything from standard cloud servers to complete AI racks. Stockatomics takes the monthly value and number of servers shipped into the United States from every origin, works out the price per unit and keeps the main grade, the shipments priced within the usual range of the past year. As AI racks make up more of what is shipped, the benchmark rises with them, which makes it a direct read on the changing cost of data-centre computing. Premium-priced shipments are shown separately in the Terminal.

An AI rack is a complete system that holds many GPUs, CPUs, memory, networking and liquid cooling in a single cabinet, built to work as one large computer for training and running AI models.
Yes. Servers and AI racks are part of the Stockatomics AI Infrastructure Index, and as the largest item in data-centre spending they carry a large weight.
AI racks are worth far more than standard servers, so as they make up a growing share of shipments the average price per server climbs. Higher memory prices have added to the cost of ordinary servers too.
The Stockatomics monthly benchmark for servers and AI racks stands at $16,317 per unit as of October 2026. Stockatomics updates it every month.
The listed companies Stockatomics links as producers of servers and AI racks are Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL), Hon Hai Precision Industry (TPE: 2317) and HP (NYSE: HPQ).
The one product in the Stockatomics model that uses servers and AI racks is the AI server rack.
