Bismuth has risen +17.9% in the past month.
In the past year the monthly price has moved between $30.96 and $81.90.
Bismuth (Bi) is a heavy metal that is unusually non-toxic, which has made it the natural replacement for lead in lead-free solders, free-machining steels, brass plumbing fittings and shot. Its largest market is pharmaceuticals and chemicals, from bismuth subsalicylate stomach remedies to the pearlescent bismuth oxychloride used in cosmetics. Bismuth also forms fusible alloys that melt at low temperatures, used in sprinkler plugs, safety fuses and moulds.
Bismuth is a by-product of lead and tungsten processing, chiefly in China, so supply depends on other metals' economics rather than on bismuth's own price. Demand is modest but broad, spanning pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, lead-free solders and metallurgy. Because so little bismuth is produced outside China, Western buyers are exposed whenever Chinese export policy changes.
Bismuth prices were depressed for years after the collapse of China's Fanya Metal Exchange in 2015 left a large overhang of metal on the market. The picture changed in 2025, when China added bismuth to its export controls: prices outside China jumped to many times their former levels, while those inside China moved far less.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $65.60 per kg contained.
China produces most of the world's bismuth, as a by-product of tungsten, lead and copper processing. Laos, South Korea and Japan are smaller producers. The United States has no primary production and imports nearly all of its needs.
Bismuth is on the US critical minerals list and the EU critical raw materials list. It is the practical substitute for lead in solders, alloys and shot, as well as an ingredient in pharmaceuticals, yet supply is a by-product concentrated in China, which has placed it under export control.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for bismuth in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is for contained bismuth metal, not for a pharmaceutical compound.

As of October 2026, the US benchmark price of bismuth is $65.60 per kg contained. Stockatomics updates it every month.
It is heavy and dense like lead but far less toxic, which makes it a safer choice for solders, plumbing brass, shot and free-machining steels.
China, which produces most of the world's bismuth, added it to its export controls, sharply raising prices for buyers outside China.
Bismuth compounds are used in stomach remedies and to treat some stomach infections, and in cosmetics.
