In the past year the monthly price has moved between $104,000 and $104,000.
Measured over the past year, cesium is +6.1%.
Cesium (Cs) is one of the rarest traded metals and the most reactive of all. Its largest use is cesium formate brine, a dense, solids-free drilling and completion fluid for high-pressure, high-temperature oil and gas wells, which operators can recover and reuse. Its most famous use is in atomic clocks: the second itself is defined by the oscillation of the cesium-133 atom, and cesium clocks underpin satellite navigation, telecoms and financial timestamping.
The cesium market is tiny and very concentrated. Commercially workable pollucite, its main ore, is found in only a few pegmatites, and one producer controls most of the supply. Demand comes mainly from cesium formate drilling fluid, much of it leased and recycled, and from atomic clocks and research. Prices are negotiated privately and are rarely published.
Cesium is sold by a very small number of producers to specialised customers, mostly under private agreements, so prices have been high and stable rather than volatile.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $104,000 per kg contained.
Cesium comes from pollucite, found in only a few pegmatite deposits. The Tanco mine in Manitoba, Canada, has historically supplied much of the world, with smaller sources in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa. Processing into cesium compounds is concentrated in China.
Cesium is on the US critical minerals list. Commercial deposits are extremely rare, one producer has historically dominated supply, and drilling fluids and atomic clocks have no simple substitute. The United States imports all of its cesium.
Stockatomics publishes a US benchmark price for cesium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is for cesium metal, not for formate brine or for an atomic-clock component. The market is small and specialised, so the price moves less often than those of exchange-traded metals.

Mainly cesium formate drilling fluid for high-pressure oil and gas wells, and atomic clocks, which define the second and underpin GPS and telecoms timing.
It is found in workable quantities only in pollucite, a mineral that occurs in a handful of pegmatite deposits worldwide.
No. Commercial cesium is the stable isotope cesium-133; cesium-137 is a radioactive isotope produced in nuclear reactors.
