At $732.37, the price is at its highest in the past 12 months.
In the past year the monthly price has moved between $372.51 and $732.37.
Measured over longer windows, indium is +142.5% on the year and +315.7% over five years.
Indium (In) is used mostly as indium tin oxide, the transparent conductive coating on flat-panel displays, touchscreens and some solar cells. A fast-growing second market is indium phosphide, the compound semiconductor in the lasers and photodetectors of fibre-optic and data-centre optical links, which the build-out of AI infrastructure is pulling forward.
Indium is recovered as a by-product of zinc smelting, so supply is limited by zinc output and by how many smelters choose to capture it. China, South Korea and Japan lead production. Demand is dominated by indium tin oxide for displays, with a fast-growing new market in indium phosphide for data-centre optics. Recycling of sputtering target scrap is a significant secondary source.
Indium prices were depressed for years after the 2015 collapse of China's Fanya Metal Exchange left large stocks overhanging the market. China added indium to its export controls in 2025, lifting prices outside China, while demand from data-centre optics has added a new source of strength.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $732.37 per kg contained.
Indium is recovered from zinc smelting, mainly in China, South Korea, Japan and Canada. The United States has no primary production and relies on imports and recycling.
Indium is on the US critical minerals list. Displays and data-centre optics depend on it, supply is a by-product of zinc smelting concentrated in a few countries, and the United States has no primary production.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for indium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is for contained indium metal, not for an indium tin oxide sputtering target.
