Rhenium is trading at a 12-month high of $5,002 per kg contained.
Over the past 12 months it has ranged from $1,076 to $5,002 per kg contained.
Over one year the price has changed +313.6%.
Rhenium (Re) is one of the rarest elements in the Earth's crust, and most of it goes into the single-crystal nickel superalloys of jet engine turbine blades, where a few per cent of rhenium lets the blades run hotter without creeping. Most of the rest is used in platinum-rhenium catalysts that refineries use to make high-octane petrol and aromatics.
Rhenium is a by-product of molybdenum roasting from copper mining, and only a few operations recover it, led by Chile. Supply therefore depends on copper and molybdenum output, not on rhenium demand. Demand is dominated by jet engine superalloys, so it follows aircraft build rates, with refining catalysts the second market.
Rhenium soared in the mid-2000s as jet engine makers adopted rhenium-bearing superalloys, then fell as they learned to use less and to recycle scrap. Since then, prices have followed aerospace build rates, recovering as commercial aircraft production picked up after the pandemic.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $5,002 per kg contained.
Rhenium is recovered from the flue dust of roasting molybdenite, which itself comes from copper mines. Chile is the largest producer, followed by the United States, Poland, China and Kazakhstan. Recycling of superalloy scrap and spent catalysts is an important second source.
Rhenium was added to the US critical minerals list in 2025. Jet engine turbine blades depend on it, and supply is a by-product of a few copper and molybdenum operations.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for rhenium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is for contained rhenium, whether traded as metal pellets or as ammonium perrhenate, not for a superalloy or a reforming catalyst.

The Stockatomics US benchmark price of rhenium is $5,002 per kg contained as of October 2026. Stockatomics updates it every month.
Mainly the single-crystal superalloys of jet engine turbine blades, plus platinum-rhenium catalysts that make high-octane petrol.
It is recovered from the gases released when molybdenite, a by-product of copper mining, is roasted, with Chile the largest producer.
Jet engines depend on it, there are few substitutes, and supply is a by-product of a small number of operations.
