In the past year the monthly price has moved between $1,188 and $1,188.
Measured over the past year, terbium is +24.4%.
Terbium (Tb) is the most potent of the heavy rare earths added to neodymium-iron-boron magnets to keep them working at high temperatures, so small amounts carry large weight in electric vehicle motors and wind turbines. It is also used in green phosphors and in Terfenol-D, an alloy that changes shape in a magnetic field, used in sonar and precision actuators.
Terbium is one of the most valuable rare earths and comes mainly from Chinese and Myanmar ionic clays. Demand is concentrated in high-temperature magnets for electric vehicles and wind turbines, with smaller uses in phosphors and Terfenol-D. Since China placed terbium under export control, prices outside China have traded well above those inside.
Terbium spiked in 2011 with the rest of the rare earths and has remained one of the most valuable. China's 2025 export controls on heavy rare earths pushed prices outside China well above those inside, as magnet makers sought secure supply.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $1,188 per kg contained.
Terbium comes mostly from ionic clay deposits in southern China and Myanmar, and is separated mainly in China, with Lynas in Malaysia an emerging source outside China.
Terbium is on the US critical minerals list, and the heavy rare earths are on the EU critical raw materials list. High-temperature magnets depend on it, and separated supply is concentrated in China, which controls its exports.
Stockatomics publishes a US benchmark price for terbium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is quoted per kg of terbium oxide, not for a finished magnet or phosphor. Because China controls most supply, prices for buyers outside China can differ widely from Chinese domestic quotes.

High-temperature permanent magnets for electric vehicles and wind turbines, green phosphors and Terfenol-D for sonar and actuators.
Yes, and one of the most valuable of all the rare earths.
China controls most terbium supply and has placed it under export control, so buyers elsewhere pay a premium for secure supply.
