Energy Fuels is a US uranium producer based in Lakewood, Colorado, and the owner of the White Mesa Mill in Utah, the only conventional uranium mill operating in the country. It has used that mill to branch into rare earths, separating neodymium and praseodymium oxide, and it is assembling a supply of heavy mineral sands from projects in Australia, Madagascar and Brazil to feed it.
Energy Fuels is linked to uranium, which it produces from conventional mines feeding the White Mesa Mill. The same mill has turned the company into a rare earth processor, producing separated neodymium and praseodymium oxide from monazite sand, and it has recovered vanadium there in the past. Uranium sales to utilities remain its core, yet rare earths are where much of its investment is now going.
The White Mesa Mill near Blanding, Utah, is Energy Fuels' hub, receiving ore from its mines in Arizona and Utah, such as Pinyon Plain and La Sal, as well as monazite for rare earth separation. Its heavy mineral sands projects are Donald in Victoria, Australia, Toliara in Madagascar and Bahia in Brazil.
