Over the past month the price is broadly flat, at −0.6%.
Its 12-month range runs from a low of $38.62 to a high of $47.57.
It is +0.7% over the past year and +23.0% over five years.
Niobium (Nb) works in tiny doses: a fraction of a per cent added as ferroniobium turns ordinary steel into high-strength low-alloy steel for pipelines, car bodies, bridges and ships, making structures lighter and tougher. It also goes into the superalloys of jet engines and into the superconducting magnets of MRI scanners and particle accelerators.
The niobium market is unusual: a single Brazilian producer supplies the large majority of the world's ferroniobium, with Canada a distant second, so supply is stable and prices are set largely by contract. Demand follows steel production, especially for pipelines, construction and cars, with niche growth from superconductors and batteries.
Niobium is one of the most stable metal prices in this list. Ferroniobium is sold largely on long-term contracts by the dominant Brazilian producer, so prices have tended to move slowly, following steel demand rather than speculative swings.
As of October 2026, the Stockatomics benchmark price is $42.82 per kg contained.
Brazil produces the large majority of the world's niobium, mostly from a single pyrochlore mine at Araxá in Minas Gerais and a second operation in Goiás. Canada, through the Niobec mine in Quebec, is a distant second. The United States has no domestic production.
Niobium is on the US critical minerals list and the EU critical raw materials list. High-strength steel and superalloys depend on it, and a single Brazilian mine supplies most of the world, leaving little alternative supply.
Stockatomics publishes a monthly US benchmark price for niobium in US dollars per kg contained, reading as of October 2026. The price is per kg of contained niobium, which matches how ferroniobium is commonly traded, and is not a price for a steel grade.

Niobium costs $42.82 per kg contained in the United States as of October 2026, on the Stockatomics monthly benchmark. Stockatomics updates it every month.
Mostly as ferroniobium to strengthen steel for pipelines, car bodies and bridges, plus superalloys for jet engines and the superconducting magnets in MRI scanners.
Brazil supplies the large majority of the world's niobium, mostly from a single mine, with Canada a distant second.
Yes, in an emerging way: niobium-titanium oxide anodes allow very fast charging and long life, and several companies are commercialising them.
