CMOC Group, formerly China Molybdenum, is a Chinese miner based in Luoyang, Henan province, with a portfolio spanning copper, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, niobium and phosphates. Its two copper-cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo have made it one of the largest cobalt producers in the world, and it owns IXM, a metals trading business that markets its output as well as that of other producers.
CMOC is linked to five critical minerals across three continents. Its Congolese mines produce copper and cobalt, the latter making it one of the world's largest cobalt producers. In Brazil it produces niobium, used mainly to strengthen steel, along with phosphate fertilisers, while its mines in Henan produce molybdenum and tungsten, the hard metal behind cutting tools and armour-piercing munitions.
CMOC's copper-cobalt mines are Tenke Fungurume and Kisanfu in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Lualaba province. Its niobium and phosphate operations are in Goiás, Brazil, while its molybdenum and tungsten mines are near Luoyang in Henan, China.
