Freeport-McMoRan is one of the world's largest publicly traded copper producers, based in Phoenix, Arizona. It runs Grasberg in Indonesia, one of the biggest copper and gold deposits on earth, together with a cluster of mines in Arizona and New Mexico and further operations in Peru and Chile. It is also a leading producer of molybdenum.
Copper is Freeport-McMoRan's critical mineral and its main product, mined at Grasberg in Indonesia, at Morenci and its other operations in Arizona and New Mexico, at Cerro Verde in Peru and at El Abra in Chile. Gold comes from Grasberg and molybdenum from its US mines, yet copper drives the company, and much of its US output is smelted and refined at its own facilities, keeping metal for grids, electric vehicles and data centres within the country.
Freeport-McMoRan's Grasberg district is in Papua, Indonesia, run by PT Freeport Indonesia. In North America its mines include Morenci, Bagdad, Safford, Sierrita and Chino, with a smelter at Miami, Arizona. In South America it operates Cerro Verde in Peru and El Abra in Chile.
