First Quantum Minerals is a Canadian copper miner whose largest assets are in Zambia, where it runs the Kansanshi and Sentinel mines. Its Cobre Panamá mine, one of the newest large copper mines in the world, stopped producing in late 2023 following a ruling by Panama's Supreme Court, and the company also mines nickel at Enterprise in Zambia.
Copper is First Quantum Minerals' main critical mineral, produced at Kansanshi and Sentinel in Zambia's Copperbelt. It also produces nickel at Enterprise, a sulphide deposit in Zambia, and has produced it in Western Australia at Ravensthorpe. Its Zambian copper goes mostly to smelters and buyers in Asia and the Middle East, feeding wiring, power infrastructure and electric vehicles.
